Mark K. Morrison, RLA, LLA, FASLA, GRP

Mark K. Morrison brings over forty years of professional design experience to MKM. Mark earned a degree in landscape architecture from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with an emphasis in horticulture and regional planning, and founded his firm in 1983 with a commitment to improving urban and regional open space by employing green infrastructure techniques. Mark stands out as a leader in sustainable sites, having transformed hundreds of open spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York from asphalt to green and at the same time pioneering a series of Low Impact Development strategies which have since been adopted by the City of New York. One of a handful of Green Roof Professionals in North America, he is a leader in green roof design and planting on structure.
Mark’s landscape architectural expertise has been repeatedly called upon by the New York State DOT, the New York City DOT, the New York City Parks & Recreation, NYC Housing Authority, NYC School Construction Authority, NYS Dormitory Authority as well as the Battery Park City Authority. Mark received national recognition for his overall excellence in Executed Works in 1997 and was elected as a Fellow by the American Society of Landscape Architects. Mark was the president of the New York City Chapter of the ASLA in 1993/1994 and 1981/1983. Morrison is a frequent speaker at numerous venues on “Sustainable Landscape Architectural Design” and “The History and Evolution of Vintage Gardening Tools”. Mark, a world traveler and member of The Explorers club, has one of the finest antique gardening tool collections in the country, with tools from all parts of the globe.
Anne Vaterlaus, RLA
Director of Design
Anne is a registered landscape architect in New York, Massachusetts and Rhode Island. She received a Bachelor of Science in Landscape Architecture from City College of NY and holds a Masters in Landscape Architecture from Harvard Graduate School of Design, where she graduated with distinction. Anne has project experience from conceptual design through construction administration, project management, client management, and stakeholder meetings. Project types range from residential to large urban development, both public and private / commercial projects and campus design. Prior to joining MKM, Anne worked for several firms including Ayers Saint Gross, Michael Van Valkenburgh Associates, Billie Cohen Ltd. Anne has taught at Columbia University, City College of New York, and Roger Williams University, and has served as a critic at a number of colleges and universities, including Harvard GSD, Columbia University, Washington University in St. Louis, MO., Wentworth Institute of Technology, SUNY Syracuse, and City College of New York.
Rebecca E. Mikulay, RA, MLA, LEED AP
Senior Project Designer
Becky earned a degree in architecture from Roger Williams University and an MLA from Cornell University. She is a registered architect in the state of New York. Becky has worked at Newman Architects in New Haven and Behan Planning and Design before joining MKM in 2016. She has worked on a diversity of projects including civic and municipal design, urban design and planning, transportation infrastructure, K-12 education, university campus design, athletics and housing. She has been involved with scope from conceptual design through construction administration including project management, consultant coordination and public involvement. Becky’s design methodology is driven by crafting the experience of space, focusing on the well-being of the people who use the space, the health of the environment and a designing place-based aesthetic.
Anamel Sanchez, MLA, ASLA
Anamel earned a degree in Architecture form the UCNE, Dominican Republic, and an MLA from City College in New York. After arriving in New York in 2010 and before gong on to earn her landscape architecture degree, Anamel worked for engineering companies doing construction management and project management. She joined the MKM team in 2015. Anamel has project experience from conceptual design through construction management, project administration, architectural design, and landscape architecture. Project types range from small residential renovations to large mix use buildings, public and private institutional projects as well as large commercial development.
Yifan Sun, MLA, LEED Green Associate
Yifan holds a Master of Landscape Architecture at the University of Georgia, a BA in urban planning, and an MA in eco-environmental engineering. Yifan arrived in the US in 2010 and had five years of professional experience before joining the MKM team in March of 2016. Her work at engineering firms taught her much about the technical aspects of landscape architecture, grading, and the use of plant materials in ecological design. She believes design must take into account the health of people and the environment as well as aesthetics. Yifan is a strong project manager, having taken charge of several complex projects from site analysis through design development, construction documentation and project/construction administration.
Yaeji Myung Kim
Yaeji holds a Bachelor of Arts in Landscape Architecture from the University of California, Berkeley. Prior to joining MKM, Yaeji worked as an Associate at GLS Landscape | Architecture in San Francisco on over 20 projects ranging from multi-family to master plan projects. She has experience as a project manager in all phases of construction, from schematic design to construction documentation. She believes that impactful design can begin with the smallest detail, and continues to explore the importance of concept design, materiality, construction, and how these elements affect the public realm.
Blake L. Morrison, MLA, ASLA, GRP
Blake earned a BA from UNH and an MLA from City College in Landscape Architecture. Blake joined the MKM team after having had 15 years of experience with landscape construction in urban and suburban settings. He has a strong feeling for materials and hands-on knowledge of detailing, sub-surface conditions, and proper installation methods. Blake is passionate about his design work, able to think big-picture as well as fine scale in his approach to sites. He has managed the installation of green roof systems in NYC, at the Visionaire condominium in Battery Park City, at One Lincoln Plaza, at Clermont Greene in Brooklyn, NY at PS 6 in New York, NY and many other sites. He has a clear sense of how projects word from design to CA, and also is fluent in cost estimating.
