MKMLA is designing a 6,000 square foot roof garden and green roof for the planned expansion of the Lawrence Hospitals Cancer Center located in the heart of Bronxville, New York. The roof garden will be accessible yearlong to patients, visitors and staff of the hospital and will feature plantings as well as well as informal sitting areas.

Our plan includes rich plantings of small trees, shrubs and perennials that will be arranged to foster a sense of privacy and calm. With an emphasis on biophilic design, the planned integration of nature with the built environment, MKMLA is developing a design to create a healthy green oasis for all its users.

In addition, the designed storm water holding capacity for the roof garden and adjacent green roofs has also allowed the hospital to eliminate any additional off-site storm water treatment including the costly and disruptive installation of in-ground storage tanks and separators in an adjacent green space.
