P.S. 100 - Story Playground
Bronx, NY

MKMLA’s successful redesign of P.S. 100 - Story Playground focused on transforming a predominately asphalt play lot into a lush community playground with a central town green. This new park provides a welcome respite from the surrounding high density urban fabric.

The park’s curvilinear layout is reinforced by heavily planted beds to create a verdant, shaded environment for park users with ample seating areas along paths and adjacent to the play equipment. The town square’s focus is a large oval lawn area where a cluster of large, mature Sycamore trees existed in an area that was previously covered in asphalt. Rock outcroppings which are reminiscent of the topography indigenous to the Bronx are a unifying theme are incorporated throughout the play equipment and play spray areas. In addition, a unique new comfort station was designed for the site.  The façade and layout of the structure reflect the overall curvilinear design developed for the site.
