HIGHLAND PARK - The Ridgewood Reservoir Site Phase I
Queens/Brooklyn, NY

The first phase of MKMLA’s overall master plan for the Ridgewood Reservoir Site is currently under construction and will include the reconstruction of the multi-use perimeter path which is part of the Brooklyn Queens Greenway system.  Extensive site analysis and research of historic photos and drawings were used to develop an appropriate design vocabulary for the first phase of the project that will inform detailing for future phases.

The path system will be paved with asphalt that is ebedded with bluestone chips to reflect the existing bluestone coping around the reservoir basins.  New ADA accessible ramps will be provided for pedestrians and bicyclists.  Steel fencing will be installed along with new site lighting specifically designed to limit light into the basins to protect wildlife habitat.  Overlook areas along the perimeter path system and causeways between the basins will include replicated historic steel fencing and new granite clad seat walls and piers that serve to reinforce the historic fabric of the site.  The landscape will include areas for bio-retention to alleviate storm-runoff and shall consist of native tree and shrub plantings along with meadow seed mixes.
