Phipps Garden Apartments built by Henry Phipps, a partner of Andrew Carnegie in the late 1920’s is a large residential property built around a central garden area. Located in Sunnyside Gardens which is on the Register of Historic Places, Phipps Garden Apartments looked to MKMLA to provide professional services which respected the landmark character of its public open spaces. The master planning effort involved a significant community input.

The final design incorporated storm water management techniques and introduced a planting palette which was mindful of their maintenance capabilities. The introduction of advanced soil technologies which decrease use of water, increase nutrient retention and enhance seed emergence was also key to the design.
