Solara Housing Complex
Bronx, New York
MKMLA collaborated with Architects to maximize use of all exterior open space available for parking as well as a courtyard with seating for residents. The limited space presented the design team with several challenges to achieve a design that was welcoming while also accommodating the required number of apartment units.
In order to provide a link between the two buildings and pedestrian friendly scale against the backdrop of the 10 story buildings, MKMLA designed a trellis over proposed parking spaces between the two towers. The trellis provides an aesthetically pleasing backdrop and serves as a unifying vertical element for the central courtyard.
