MKMLA is developing a woodland trail and planting plan for this seven acre private residency located in Harrison, New York. Developed in the 1920’s and 30’s, the present landscape is a rich collection of historical plantings, water features and specimen trees. The clients requested a trail and planting plan that would allow them to enjoy their unique grounds and surrounding woods throughout the year.

After careful analysis of the site, we were able to divide the landscape into a collection of distinct ecological zones.   This initial research and planning aided us in understanding our client’s landscape and helped frame our initial design efforts. MKMLA plans to improve and enhance the aesthetics and ecology of the existing landscape through the removal of invasive species, the installation of appropriate native and ornamental plantings and the restoration of several stone walkways. We are also in the process of designing a secluded woodland pavilion located at the high point of the property for the clients to use as a place to rest and admire the views of the surrounding property.
