Dong Chang Harbor Office Complex
Shanghai, China
The Dong Chang Harbor Office Complex is located on a seven acre site adjacent to the Huang Pu River opposite the old city of Shanghai. MKMA prepared the landscape master plan for the office complex as well as the quarter mile public river front promenade in the new Pudong section of Shanghai. The complex is organized around a grand central plaza around which serves as the central community gathering space and connects the office complex to the riverfront park.
Seven distinctive glass and steel buildings are connected by an underground podium the length of the site which required MKMLA to provide extensive planting on structure. The lush, botanically diverse landscape provides the framework for a sophisticated vehicular and pedestrian circulation system. As the buildings are a model of sustainable energy technologies so too is the extensive landscape which promotes bio-diversity, reduces imperious surfaces and improves public access to the river.
