Visionaire Green Roof Sky Island

Mark Morrison and Anne Vaterlaus co-authored a paper titled “Sky Island at the Visionaire,” the cover and feature article in the most recent “Living Architecture Monitor Magazine” published September 2011. The article describes the structural and design challenges encountered by Mark K. Morrison Landscape Architecture and Windsway Construction in converting a conventional extensive green roof to a highly-designed intensive green roof system.  The roof terrace, completed in June 2010, incorporates a wide variety of ornamental plants as well as a fruit orchard, espaliered pear trees, an herb garden, and a vegetable garden.  In addition to describing the design of productive planting systems, the article speaks to the ecological benefits of bio-diverse planting systems within the urban environment.
