The firm has conceived and implemented projects on a variety of scales in the Northeast, as well as in Asia and Africa. MKM has offices in New York and Boston. Our team is composed of designers, authors, educators and builders with a shared culture of service, quality, and hands-on construction administration services.
We approach each project with a high level of craftsmanship and innovation, proposing individualized solutions that emphasize restorative practices in site development, storm water management, and environmental sustainability. We have worked on a variety of complex urban sites, and are knowledgeable in landscape technologies that allow us to enhance living architecture from city street to major infrastructure to rooftop.

Mark K. Morrison brings over forty years of professional design experience to Mark K. Morrison Landscape Architecture PC (MKM), a full service firm with offices in New York and Boston. Mark earned a degree in landscape architecture from the University of Wisconsin - Madison with an emphasis in horticulture and regional planning, and founded his firm in 1983 with a commitment to improving urban and regional open space by employing green infrastructure techniques. MKM’s work can be seen in numerous urban landscapes throughout New York City’s five boroughs, as well as in New England. Morrison stands out as a leader in sustainable sites, having transformed hundreds of open spaces throughout the five boroughs of New York from asphalt to green and at the same time pioneering a series of Low Impact Development strategies which have since been adopted by the City of New York. MKM’s projects have ranged from zoos to parks; from corporate headquarters to college campuses; from city parks to urban waterfronts. MKM’s global work includes projects in China, Africa, the Arabian Peninsula, Russia and the Caribbean.
Mark K Morrison, one of a handful of Green Roof Professionals in North America, is a leader in green roof design and planting on structure. MKM recently completed an experimental urban agricultural-themed green roof in a LEED Platinum certified building in lower Manhattan, featuring more than 160 plant species and including a fruit orchard. Other recent work includes the preparation of a Master Plan as well as fine scale site design for the Ridgewood Reservoir in Highland Park which is one of Mayor Bloomberg’s five Legacy Projects. MKM has completed over thirty five New York City school playgrounds in Queens, part of Mayor Bloomberg’s PlaNYC 2030 Schoolyards to Playgrounds Program. As a part of this program, MKM implemented a consensus building process in which schoolchildren participated in the initial design phase of the playgrounds, thereby learning about teamwork, design, and green infrastructure. Mark’s landscape architectural expertise has been repeatedly called upon by the New York State DOT, the New York City DOT, the New York City Parks & Recreation, NYC Housing Authority, NYC School Construction Authority, NYS Dormitory Authority as well as the Battery Park City Authority.
The New York Chapter of the American Society of Landscape Architects recognized MKM’s Master Plan for Southpoint Park on Roosevelt Island with an Honor Award in 2005 and his firm’s collective work on the Trust for Public Land’s New York City Playground Program with a Merit Award in 2008. Mark received national recognition for his overall excellence in Executed Works in 1997 and was elected as a Fellow by the American Society of Landscape Architects. Mark Morrison was the president of the New York City Chapter of the ASLA in 1993/1994 and 1981/1983. Morrison is a frequent speaker at numerous venues on “Sustainable Landscape Architectural Design” and “The History and Evolution of Vintage Gardening Tools”. Mark, a world traveler and member of The Explorers club, has one of the finest antique gardening tool collections in the country, with tools from all parts of the globe.
